20 Years in Watford: How Twin Technology Has Grown with Hertfordshire

In March 2006, Twin Technology opened its doors at 21 Station Road in Watford. The world of IT support looked very different then — smartphones were in their infancy, the cloud was barely a concept for most businesses, and the idea of working from home was still largely theoretical. Twenty-one years on, the technology has transformed beyond recognition. But the thing that hasn’t changed is why we started: to give businesses in Watford and Hertfordshire honest, expert IT support they could rely on.

The Early Years

Twin Technology was founded on a simple frustration: businesses in Watford were being let down by IT providers who were slow to respond, difficult to reach, and more interested in selling products than solving problems. The founders set out to build something different — a local team that treated every client’s business with the same care they’d give their own.

The early clients were predominantly small businesses in and around Watford town centre — professional services firms, retailers, local charities. The work was hands-on, relationship-driven, and built on trust. Many of those original clients are still with us today.

Growing with Our Clients — and with Technology

Through the 2010s, the pace of technology change accelerated dramatically. Cloud computing went from a niche concept to the mainstream. Microsoft launched Office 365 (now Microsoft 365) and transformed how businesses managed email and productivity. Smartphones became genuine business tools. Cybersecurity threats grew from a theoretical concern to a daily business risk.

We became an experienced Microsoft partner, built our cloud migration capability, and invested in cybersecurity skills at a time when many local IT providers were still treating it as an afterthought.

The Pandemic and the Shift to Hybrid Working

March 2020 brought an unprecedented challenge for every business in Hertfordshire and across the UK. Overnight, thousands of employees needed to work from home — and the businesses that had invested in cloud infrastructure and modern IT support were the ones that made the transition without significant disruption.

Twin Technology supported clients through that transition, helping businesses that had never considered remote working become genuinely flexible organisations. It was a demanding period — but it demonstrated clearly why proactive, forward-looking IT support matters so much more than reactive break-fix.

Two Decades of Relationships

The thing we’re most proud of, after 20 years, isn’t any particular technology project or certification. It’s the relationships. Clients who came to us as small businesses and are now significant regional employers. Education providers whose students have benefited from better technology. Charities whose limited budgets we’ve helped stretch further. NHS organisations whose staff depend on reliable technology to care for patients.

We hear from our clients’ teams that they feel like Twin Technology is part of their organisation — that when they call, they speak to someone who knows their name, knows their systems, and genuinely cares about getting the problem fixed. That’s what we set out to build in 2006, and it’s what we’ll keep building.

Looking Forward

The next decade of IT for Hertfordshire businesses will be shaped by artificial intelligence, by the continued evolution of cybersecurity threats, and by the increasing expectation that technology just works — invisibly, reliably, from anywhere.
